"The great, dark body writhes
and in the trembling jaw
the unfathoming sounds of leviathan."

-Shearwater, Leviathan Bound.

The description of the monstrous sea beast in the book of Job leaves us with this conclusion: "Behold, the hope of a man is false" (Job 41). When faced with the presence of immense size and power, we realize that control is an illusion, and we are vulnerable.

By nature we long to know what will be, but the future looms unseen. Circumstances turn, twist, and toss us like so many waves. Gazing blindly into the vast unknown, our small scale can be resisted or embraced.
