Charred wood from Montana wildfires and milled pine

Material for this project was burned by wildfire and gathered by community members who fought fire to save their lives. Clearing embodies the stories of resilient people who battle wildfires, physical and metaphorical, and provides a contemplative space for all who enter. 

The interior of Clearing is paneled with Montana Blue Pine and provides a perimeter bench for viewers to rest. The gently angled walls invite viewers to lean back and naturally lifts their gaze upward. The vertical wood paneling mimics the view of stretching pine trees.
