Drawing is honest. Trace the artists hand; every mark counts. The immediacy of the process is urgent, following mark to mark. Seeing helps me understand. Every drawing fails from the beginning to capture what it should be, but perhaps over time the accumulation of many attempts gets closer.
Physical movement inspires mark-making, like feeling the wind between branches, the gravity of water, or something like a whirling dervish. These drawings relate to my three-dimensional work with charred wood. They are waiting, receiving, asking, holding, being threatened, pulling.
